About the Role:

The Inventory Accounting Manager will report to the Director of Accounting Operations and take full ownership of inventory accounting in a high-growth ecommerce and retail environment. This is a highly visible leadership role with broad cross-functional impact — you’ll bring structure and rigor to a complex inventory function while partnering closely with Finance, FP&A, and Supply Chain to drive insight and continuous improvement. You’ll be supported by a Senior Accountant and have real opportunity to shape processes, influence decisions, and grow within the organization.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Account for inventory under US GAAP and in accordance with company accounting policies
  • Review material dropship costs, freight, and fulfillment cost journal entries
  • Review and approve weekly dropship vendor invoices
  • Prepare monthly inventory-related balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Perform flux analysis on respective balance sheet and P&L accounts
  • Execute completion of all month/quarter/annual close processes timely and in adherence to close calendar
  • Partner with FP&A on budget/forecast and close results
  • Partner with Supply Chain/Ops on developing/revising processes and policies and providing/understanding actual results, etc.
  • Understand physical inventory processes and counts
  • Perform inventory analysis to determine appropriate reserve and methodologies for shrink and excess/obsolete/slow-moving inventory
  • Perform analysis and provide insight into account balance details and drivers of change, particularly around material costs and freight
  • Support external audit by providing timely and accurate support schedules as requested
  • Continuous evaluation and identification of process improvements
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain/Ops, and other functions
  • Mentor and develop junior staff members
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and tasks as requested
  • Handle special projects related to technology, systems, automation, new initiatives, or other requests
  • Provide support to other general accounting functions outside of inventory as business needs evolve, offering opportunities to broaden exposure across the accounting organization

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with required background in inventory accounting and in a team leadership position
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university
  • Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with the agility to prioritize competing demands and pivot quickly
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and follow-through from idea to execution
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Process-improvement mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Hands-on experience developing and implementing effective internal controls
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.) with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools, systems, and concepts
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
  • Consumer Product Goods (CPG) and Big 4 and/or public company experience preferred
  • Retail and/or e-commerce experience a plus
  • NetSuite experience a plus

About the Role

What this role involves

Job Summary

The AVP, Rate Setting position is responsible for leading the Annuity rate setting for new business and inforce.  This position is responsible for the rate setting, pricing, and risk analysis of F&G’s Annuity products in accordance with established pricing guidelines and profitability targets to achieve F&G’s product strategy.

This position reports directly to the VP, Annuity Product Officer and is expected to interact with distribution, pricing & design, and product development teams as well as others across disciplines and functions.

The role will have direct reports and manages a team which contains actuarial resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct the analysis for profitability reviews and make recommendations for adjustments needed to achieve target profitability
  • Lead the analysis and present recommendations for:
    • Credited rate adjustments needed to achieve target profitability to the Retail Rate Committee
    • Pricing assumption reviews as well as other structural, value or methodology changes related to the retail annuity block
  • Prepare Senior Management and Board materials regarding rate, assumption and/or other recommended changes
  • Influence cross departmental meetings with VP/SVP leaders discussing various profitability choices and recommendations, partnering with distribution leaders and other management committee members
  • Employ sound analysis and judgement in balancing the trade-offs between profitability and brand reputation
  • Engage with organizational change management teams to ensure accurate and timely implementation of approved changes
  • Enhance departmental processes and analytical capabilities including the deployment of new analysis techniques where appropriate
  • Direct conversations with external partners (auditors, consultants, reinsurance partners) regarding rating and assumptions, as appropriate
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging industry experience for product features and benefits pertinent to F&G
  • Participate in and utilize third party services and surveys to augment understanding of emerging experience and expectations of future experience, especially where F&G experience is not credible and future experience has high impact on emergence of profits
  • Oversee staff development including performance management, training, development, controlling workflow, and engagement of employees

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science or related degree or equivalent experience
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) Required, Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) preferred
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) required
  • 7+ years actuarial experience with progressively more responsibility with a concentration on Annuity products such as Fixed Annuities, Indexed Annuities, and Registered Indexed Linked Annuities
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in role that requires improving efficiency and automation
  • Experience within an Actuarial pricing function with a strong understanding of product, rate determination, capital utilization, and regulatory requirements
  • Previous management experience with developing a team
